Modern Design furnishings and decor celebrate natural materials, neutral or earthy colours, and the elimination of unnecessary detailing. It uses monochromatic colours whilst Contemporary style has a wide range and variety of colours.
The typical characteristics of the Modern Design are mainly structural elements (concrete and beams) are often left exposed; emphasis on horizontal and vertical lines with fewer curves; lack of fluff; low, horizontal furnishings with clean lines.
Modern style is also about the celebration of natural light unadorned windows; natural materials such as unpainted wood, metals, leather and natural fibres; neutral/natural colour palette; reflective surfaces such as steel, chrome or glass and natural woods and wood veneers.
