At times we all appreciate a turn towards nature in interior design. Whether it is choosing a nature inspired color scheme, or a choice of natural materials, we all need that sensual, organic feel for our home furniture. Check out the latest trend in interior design – cork – in various design styles and color schemes, and enjoy the effortless chic of the organic inspiration…
Interior design that bases on the use of cork does not necessarily have to be rustic. Nowadays we have a wide variety of modern designs that use cork either for its decorativeness, or for the material features. Cork can help you create a warm interior – literally. It isolates the walls (which makes it perfect for the northern walls) and mutes the floors (no more complaints from the neighbours…).
Cork recently celebrates a great success in product design. As you can see, it is possible to have a cork bowl, a cork bench seat, or even a cork tabletop! The material is resilient enough for that use, and has a sensual and intricate feel about it as well. To make an interior that displays cork more elegant, try to choose some sophisticated sage green, black and white finishes, as well as materials such as brass, concrete and ceramics.
Take a look at this modern cafeteria’s ceiling. It is decorated with some modular, triangular cork panels that sculpt the surface that’s sometimes neglected. With its natural tones it harmonizes the bold tribal pattern on the wall. Another thing is that it enables hiding the electrics.
Have you ever though about the possibility of using cork for a backsplash? It creates a balance for the industrial kitchen cabinets and softens the minimal luxury style. This combination of cork, dark wood laquer, anthracite and steel could also be perfect for a luxurious bathroom design.
We have all had a cork board at least once in our lives – but an entire wall covered in cork panels? – this is something new. A cork wall enables you creating an idea board without the limits of traditional boards – and creates a great accents for a boho interior.
An all-white bedroom design can be wonderful, but sometimes it is lacking a decorative aspect. In this case a cork wall could be the solution that does not disturb the harmony, yet brings some pattern to the design. This modern organic design could benefit by some small accents of branches in matte anthracite handmade vases and for breaking the monotony – a bright pink decorative cushion.
Recently designers have been experimenting and re-discovering interior design materials. And so we have concrete lamps, wooden lamps – and cork lamps as well. Try mixing all the materials together to create a bouquet of lighting – a composition you cold hang above your dining table and be proud of.
The ingenious use of cork with white carrara marble and copper finish – ultimate sophistication for your home office design.
As you can see cork is growing to be one of the most important trends in interior design for 2015 and 2016. My favourite style variation for it would be pairing it with black lacquer and brass – I will definitely try it at my own place! And what will your cork accent in interior design be?
