THANK YOU FOR YOUR REQUEST
We will be in touch soon.
Landau+Kindelbacher was founded in 1994 by Gerhard Landau and Ludwig Kindelbacher and turned into a private limited company in 2009. It has more than 60 employees and it managed to complete over 969 projects since the office has been created. The capital of the company is the interface between architecture and interior design. The company has a gift of thinking outside the box and this is attained by getting inspired by art, culture, and even lifestyle.
Home’Society believes that talking, discussing, and exploring ideas together is essential to the design process. The goal is to create a platform with a new vision of macro and micro trends within the industry, generating added value for the design lover community. These design talks include interviews with interior designers, architects, and showrooms to discover and discuss trending and the creative process.
Design Talks had the opportunity of interviewing Gerhard Landau from the Landau+Kindelbacher, an outstanding company that has been around for over two decades. The architect learned very soon in his life that architecture could be something professional, and it was in London that we got inspired to set up his own firm. His aim was to gather associates and partners to create an outstanding space. Years later, the company was nominated and awarded for its projects, receiving many appraisals. Landau sees this as a major goal to everyone, but especially to the employees that spend so much time in the design of these projects. It serves as an inspiration for the next ones and even for the years to come. Additionally, it can have a very big impact on the professional lives of young architects.
Landau talked to us about the philosophy of the company, and how it lies in interior design being an overall experience, aiming to give the clients a projection of their own personality. There is a value of quality, something he even claims to be their distinctive style. This helps create tailor-made concepts and projects for their clients all over Europe.
While discussing one of their newest projects and factors that seem to be important in interior design, Landau talked about the significance of paying attention to the weather conditions. When you are building a project you want it to be resistant and cozy and this can only be attained when you study the context of the scene.
He spoke to us about Christine Sail Meyer and her fantastic competency in design. To her, lighting is extremely important when doing a project, and Landau agrees, for it is the way of reading the structure of the materials. The reflections it creates give personality to the space and make us perceive every little detail that is present. Landau remarks that “(…) it is so important to use the right light systems to highlight our ideas of the interior design.“
Landau + Kindelbacher has been heavily recognized for its residential and office spaces. Adding to this, the architect stresses that one of the major projects that the company had was Siemens, which is headquartered in Munich. They worked in different spaces, from the cantine to the main lobby and it was an important and huge project. One to be quite proud.
Sustainability is an important concern for the company and there has been an increase in requests with this in mind. Landau mentions that is very common on office designs, and they try to deliver that and avoid waste as much as possible. In housing projects, they try to achieve luxury by being sustainable. The architects believe that more and more this will have an impact on the industry because of the younger generation and their admiration for anything green. And this, by his experience, tends to be much more active in a European context.
Landau+Kindelbacher is nearly finished with a new design. A stunning design overlooking the Gulf. They also have many upcoming projects in Munich, including luxury housing projects. They are going to work on many different designs, from offices and housing, to hotels, which makes it more fun and less monotonous.
Landau ended our interview with advice for young designers and architects by saying to assert passion as an intern. To be loyal to your clients and be extremely enamored by your work.
